It's Christmas time. That means it's time for me to post our Christmas card on this Cigar Box Blog. Well, here it is - featuring our four grandsons who give us more than ample reason to feel joyous and hopeful. By sharing this Christmas greeting, we hope all of our friends, the ones we've met and those who we have yet to know, experience a wondrous and joyful season of celebration in the traditions and faith that each of you holds dear.
Winnie and I wish you a season encircled by joy and enraptured by possibility!
Do You See What I See?
What are you looking at, what do you see?
Squirrels in treetops, or birds on the wing?
Contrails or clouds or a flying red sleigh?
Perhaps it’s the future preparing your day.
What am I looking at, what do I see?
Athletes, artists, musicians and mystery,
Students, scholars, clowns and caregivers,
Eyes filled with wonder awaiting wisdom.
Brothers and cousins in constant motion,
Laying arms on shoulders, heads leaning in
Form a circle encircling all as good friends –
Boys laughing, growing – becoming men.
The world we pass you seems an unruly mess,
Alas, could we learn once again this Christmas?
Keep looking up – with arms on shoulders and
Heads leaning in, let the circle encircle more again.
What am I looking at, what do I see?
The future, in your hands, looks better to me.
